Warm Mist Humidifiers
Boils the water (killing bacteria in the water) to release steam and moisture into the air. A medicated inhalant can also be added to the steam vapor to help reduce coughs. Vaporizers are more healthful than cool mist types of humidifiers because steam is sterile and free from minerals. Warm mist humidifiers add warmth and humidity into the air.
Cool Mist Humidifiers
A rotating disc flings water at a diffuser, which breaks the water into fine droplets that float into the air. They are most useful in warm weather to replace moisture into the air without increasing room temperature.
Ultrasonic Humidifiers
A metal diaphragm vibrating at an ultrasonic frequency creates water droplets that silently exit the humidifier in the form of a cool fog. Ultrasonic Humidifiers are more energy efficient and operate well in both hot and cold weathers.
